Meet Our Staff

Summer Programs at Cary Academy staff are enthusiastic professionals, carefully chosen for their passion, professional knowledge and their ability to work with children.  Every staff member has been background checked and Red Cross trained.

Owen Fitzgerald

Technology/Resource Coordinator

Owen is a student at Duke University majoring in Computer Science and a Cary Academy alumnus. He has been attending Cary Academy Summer Programs since he was a young camper and has now worked at Cary Academy for 6 years as a staff member. During his free time he enjoys playing soccer, scuba diving, and long walks on the beach. Owen is very enthusiastic and excited about this summer and looks forward to another great time at camp this year.

Operations Manager

Kevin Pendergast is a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill pursuing a B.A. in Dramatic Arts with a minor in Entrepreneurship. He graduated from Cary Academy in 2014 after seven great years and can’t get over how quickly these last three years have passed. He hopes to one day own and operate an entertainment venue, but for now has a strong interest in technical direction and scenic carpentry. During the school year, he works as the Undergraduate Carpenter for PlayMakers Repertory Company. Kevin is also certified as a drone pilot through the FAA and is the Co-Founder of Full Flight Media. While a student at Cary Academy, Kevin thoroughly enjoyed spending his summers working at Summer Programs. He looks forward to coming back this year for another exciting summer!

Amy studied for her Undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds her Master’s in the Art of Teaching Special Education from North Carolina Central University.  She has spent over 15 years in the field of education and was Cary Academy’s original Learning Specialist until taking some time off starting in the summer of 2013 to stay at home with her young children.  Now that her children are getting older and are in school, Amy is returning to her passion of helping students be as successful as they can be and brings enthusiasm and a love of learning to her first year at Summer Quest.  When she is not supporting students, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and their new puppy, walking, reading, cheering for the Tar Heels.

Sarah is a Class of 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.  She currently works as a producer at WBIR, a television station in Knoxville, TN.  She has enjoyed her work there, especially meeting Dolly Parton when she worked on her telethon for wildfire victims in the Great Smoky Mountains.  She loves to travel around the Southeast United States including favorite places like Atlanta, Charleston, and Charlotte.  She will be attending Belmont Law School in the Fall and is super excited to spend her summer back home in Cary.

Rose is a student at NC State University studying Business Administration and is an alumnus of Panther Creek High School.  This is her fourth summer working at Cary Academy Summer Programs as a staff member.  She enjoys warm weather, baking (and eating), drinking coffee and staying active.  She is excited to see all the fun memories and adventures the summer of 2017 will bring!

Lauren is a recent graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School and is planning to attend NC State University in the fall to study Biomedical Engineering as a Park Scholar.  Lauren has a bubbly personality (even in the mornings) and loves dancing, eating desserts, spending time with friends and playing with animals.  This is Lauren’s fourth year at Summer Programs at Cary Academy and she is very excited for a great summer!

Matthew just graduated from Cary Academy this spring and is excited to study engineering or business in college.  He enjoys hanging out with friends, watching and playing sports, and eating good food.  Matthew has attended Cary Academy since 6th grade and started working at Summer Programs at Cary Academy as an LIT in 2014.  This year, he will be working to coordinate logistics for camp and is excited for another great summer!


Jose Deleon

Jose is a recent Graduate of Knightdale High School. He will be attending East Carolina University in the fall. This is Jose’s second year working at Summer Programs at Cary Academy. He volunteers at elementary schools in his community every week and also has additional experience babysitting children. Jose enjoys playing all sports, but especially baseball, basketball, and football. He also enjoys playing video games, watching movies, and reading books. His favorite subjects in school are Science and Math. Jose looks forward to another summer at Cary Academy and hopes for more exciting new experiences and fun adventures.

Ava Autry

Ava, a rising junior, has been at Cary Academy for five years and is looking forward to her third summer here at Summer Programs at Cary Academy. In and out of school, she plays tennis and basketball, and is now a part of the Speech and Debate Team. She is dedicated to all of her activities, and Summer Programs is an activity she is proud to be a part of. She can’t wait to kick off this next summer!

Alex Jones

Alex is a rising senior at Cary Academy, and is excited to be returning this summer as a staff member.  In school she enjoys History and Spanish.  Outside of school Alex enjoys playing all kinds of sports, especially field hockey.  She likes to relax, hang out with friends, and travel to new places.  Alex has been working with Summer Programs at Cary Academy since the summer of 2014 and is looking forward to another super fun summer!

Naomi Johnson

Naomi is a rising freshman at Cary Academy and is looking forward to returning for her 4th year with Summer Programs at Cary Academy.  Naomi’s favorite subject in school is her Advanced Biology class.  In her free time she practices as a level 10 gymnast.  Naomi loves working with kids and has attended Summer Programs as a camper since she was 7.  She looks forward to having fun this summer!


Matthew Kacvinsky

Matthew is about to embark on his 6th year at Cary Academy as a member of the Class of 2018.  When he isn’t eating at Moe’s is he is probably hanging out with his friends, being adventurous, or cheering for the Tarheels.  Matt has extensive experience working with kids (he is one of 4 kids!) and is looking forward to playing cross the ocean on the quad.  He is excited for another great summer!

Ben Humphries

Ben is a rising senior at Cary Academy who has attended since 6th grade. In school he enjoys math and science and works on programming and robotics in his free time. Ben is also devoted to the CA swim team and plays 5 instruments including guitar and piano. He can’t wait to return to Summer Programs and play his favorite game, Apples to Apples!


Luke Johnson

Luke Johnson is a rising junior at Cary Academy and this will be his third year as a staff member for Summer Programs.  He is really looking forward to seeing old campers as well as new ones, too. Outside of school and camp, you can find him training on the tennis courts, running the Cross Country trails or scrolling through cat pictures on Instagram and sending them to Elizabeth. He can’t wait to see what this year’s summer has in store!


Ian Reyes

Ian, a rising sophmore at UNC-Greensboro is double-majoring in Political Science and Spanish.  He loves playing volleyball, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.  He is originally from Puerto Rico and is very passionate, playful and spontaneous. He can’t wait for camps to start!

Caroline Spancake

Caroline is a rising junior at Cary Academy, and she is excited to be returning as a staff member after being an LIT last summer.  At school she enjoys the sciences and being a part of Cary Academy’s Speech and Debate team. She also enjoys swimming and spending time with her friends and family.  Caroline has previous babysitting experience and is excited about getting to know our cmapers.  SHe is looking forward to another exciting summer!

Emma Glosson

Emma is Cary Academy student, entering her 7th year with the school as a Class of 2018 member.  She loves being a part of the yearbook team, working on her school fashion magazine (Inkblot), and hanging out with friends.  Emma also enjoys running track and field, and watching movies in her free time.  This will be her 3rd year with Summer Programs at Cary Academy, and she can’t wait to have an amazing summer!

Ceren Iz

Ceren is a sophomore at Cary Academy and this is her second year working with Summer Programs. She has a passion and aptitude for art and an absolute devotion to horses and horseback riding.  She is ecstatic to be returning once again this year as part of the team and can hardly wait to meet all the new campers this summer!


Anjali Satyavolu

Anjali is a rising 1th grader at Green Hope High School who is excited to be back at Cary Academy for her second summer!  Anjali has extensive experience working with children and enjoys music, family, and being creative.  She is excited for another summer filled with tons of smiles and sunshine!

Margaret Velto

Margaret is a rising senior here at Cary Academy, and has been part of the Summer Programs staff since 2014. Prior to being on staff, she attended Summer Quest camps in 2005 and has been affiliated with the Cary Academy campus since infancy, due to both her parents being faculty members.  Academically, she enjoys English, particularly creative writing, but she also enjoys dancing, listening to and playing music, playing softball, reading, traveling, hand-sewing, and photography.  Margaret loves working with kids and aspires to be a teacher like her parents.  She is thrilled to be returning this year and cannot wait to have fun with campers, instructors, and fellow staff members.

Elizabeth Maydew

Elizabeth is a rising junior at Cary Academy and this is her third year with Summer Programs. In her free time, she loves to play tennis, pass the lacrosse ball, and go kayaking. She has spent the past year as the leader of the ESL club.  Elizabeth is thrilled to be a part of another summer of art, baking, and creating fabulous memories with campers at Summer Programs at Cary Academy.


George Adanuty

George is a rising senior at Cary Academy and is looking forward to entering his second year working at Summer Programs at Cary Academy!  George loves being active, his favorite sports being soccer, basketball, and dodgeball.  George also likes photography/filmmaking and music (although he sadly doesn’t play any instruments).  George is very much looking forward to helping the campers have the most fun possible in a safe and responsible environment.

Rebecca DeSousa

Rebecca is a rising Senior at Apex High School. At school, her favorite subject is History and her class is Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Out of school she likes to volunteer at church, working with elementary and middle school children. Outside of school and church activities, she likes to spend her free time writing stories, learning new languages like ASL, and traveling to different countries especially Portugal. Rebecca is very excited to be working at Cary Academy’s summer camp and can’t wait to see what the summer holds.


Suki Bristol

Suki is a rising 10th grader at Cary Academy and is beyond excited to work her first summer with Summer Programs at Cary Academy. She is an avid runner on the CA Cross Country and Track teams, and also enjoys being a part of CA’s Debate Team.  She loves the outdoors, particularly hiking in the mountains, and babysitting and volunteering at local elementary schools.  Suki is ecstatic to work with our campers and can’t wait to make this an amazing summer!

Carson Baker

Carson is a rising 9th grader at Cary Academy and will be a LIT for the first time this year. He enjoys everything involved with the outdoors, from playing sports to hiking, to exploring the world with his friends and family. He can’t wait to take what he’s learned from babysitting and helping with junior tennis camps and apply it to Summer Programs at Cary Academy. Carson’s ready for a fun summer that will make memories that last a lifetime.

Haley McGuire

Haley is a rising 9th grader at Cary Academy, and this is her first year as a Leader in Training. She enjoys field hockey, playing with dogs, and tennis. She is excited to have the opportunity to expand her experience in working with kids. Haley is looking forward to working on staff and she can’t wait to make countless memories.

Koen Winemiller

Koen is a rising freshman at Cary Academy and is ecstatic to join the Summer Programs team for his first year. In his free time, he enjoys running competitively, playing soccer, and socializing with his friends. Koen also really enjoys his science class in school, and can’t wait to take Biology next school year. He looks forward to an exciting first summer with Summer Programs and is thrilled to engage with his campers!

Matthew Modi

Matthew attends Cary Academy and is volunteering for the second time with Summer Programs at Cary Academy.  In his free time he enjoys programming on the computer as well as making electronic gadgets.  He also enjoys learning new things about technology and computers.  Matthew is excited to work with the campers to make sure they have a great time this summer.  He is hoping that he can be the best shark in cross the ocean.

Becca Humphries

Becca is a rising Freshman at Cary Academy. In school her favorite subjects are PE, theater, and lunch.  Outside of school she loves to attend charity events. She also loves playing basketball and love going out with friends. She is really excited to be working as an LIT and is looking forward to being a part of the community.

Lara Crochik

Lara is a rising sophomore at Cary Academy. In school, she loves to volunteer with Beta club and play soccer, as well as basketball. Lara loves to take pictures and to travel, her favorite trip was to Paris (so far!).  A former camper, she is excited to return to Summer Quest as a LIT, and hopes to make the campers have an amazing experience like she did!

Samantha Jones

Samantha is a freshman at Green Hope High School. she does not attend Cary Academy, but her parents work at the school and have been a part of the community for a long time. Samantha has had a lot of experience with kids. She became babysitter certified when she was ten and has been babysitting ever since. Outside of school she plays softball and does competitive cheer. Samantha is so excited to meet new people all different ages.

Grant Scotto

Grant is a rising 10th grader at Cary Academy.  He loves playing the trumpet and volunteering for school events. He is involved in track, wrestling and cross country teams at Cary Academy. When not participating in sports, he is not afraid to put on some music and dance. He is very excited to be a member of the LIT team and hope to make someone’s day a little better.

Preston Coates

Preston is a rising sophomore at Cary Academy.  In school, he loves to learn Spanish and play soccer.  Outside of school, he likes to volunteer for the Brown Bag Ministry.  He enjoys snacks at midnight and uses Snapchat way too much.  He is very excited about being able to work with campers and sweat while having fun!

Harrison Reed

Harrison is a sophomore at Cary Academy and his family has been at this school for eight years now. In school, he loves history and is deeply involved with video production. Outside of school, he loves to work at the Miracle League. Baseball and golf are sports he loves to play most. His favorite place in the world is his families’ lake house on Lake Gaston. He can’t wait to work this summer with everyone and he hopes that he will make tons of new friends.

Finn Kerns

Finn Kerns is a rising sophomore at Cary Academy. In school he loves participating on the debate team and outside of school he enjoys swimming on his neighborhood swim team. He usually is more of an athletics oriented person, but something most people don’t know about him is that he played piano for multiple years! He is looking forward to participating in Summer Programs at Cary Academy and is looking forward to helping with as many sporty activities as possible!

Hannah Yoder

Hannah is a rising junior at Research Triangle High School. In school, Hannah is excited to learn anything new, from trigonometry to chemistry to AP world history, and is a defender on the varsity women’s soccer team. Outside of school, she likes to volunteer through the YMCA in the Y Guides program. • When she isn’t busy with academics or soccer, Hannah is the president of her school’s art club.  As a LIT, Hannah is looking forward to sharing her enthusiasm for learning and creative play.

Victor Taylor

Victor is a rising sophomore at Cary Academy. While in school, Victor enjoys his history classes and playing in the jazz band, and volunteers outside of school with a local organization that helps the elderly. Victor is an avid tennis player and fan, trying to watch as much of it as possible. He is looking forward to this summer, and can’t wait to help make Summer Programs at Cary Academy an unforgettable experience this summer!

Jaida Jett

Jaida Jett is a rising sophomore at Cary Academy. Her favorite class is French and she is an involved member of Cary Academy Key Club and volunteers for a number of different events. Although basketball is her favorite, she loves playing any and all sports and loves to try new foods. She can’t wait to be an LIT and make endless friendship bracelets!

Maya Agnihotri

Maya is a sophomore at Cary Academy. She enjoys playing basketball, computer programming, and volunteering with Key Club. Math is her favorite subject. Outside of school, Maya loves to travel and spend time with her friends. She is very excited to be a LIT this summer and to make new friends!

David Day

David is a rising sophomore at Research Triangle High School and has many friends at Cary Academy. He enjoys working with kids in kindergarten through middle school and as an artist, David really enjoys encouraging creativity in others. He is also a student pilot and is passionate about aviation, and can be found with his head in the clouds every weekend. David is really looking forward to being a LIT, and working with the kids on arts and crafts.
